This unicorn melt is a true thing of beauty

Some people in this world don’t believe in magic, but to those folks I say: haaaave you met the unicorn melt?

No, your eyes aren’t deceiving you – that is a real life sandwich that you can eat, love and cry tears of joy over… A melty, gooey, piece of genius pioneered by Hong Kong’s Kala Toast, which sent the Internet into a full-on foodie meltdown last year.

Now, this colourful beauty is available in the US, thanks to LA’s Chomp Eatery, a hip restaurant known for its flavourful (mostly healthy) bites and wide selection of cold-pressed juices.

The grillmasters at Chomp keep things simple with the ingredients of this cosmic masterpiece: delicious unicorn milk (aka a mix of dyed cheeses) sandwiched between two slices of crispy sourdough bread. Of course, the end result is a dreamy, photogenic sandwich that would satisfy even the cast of My Little Pony.

And while some critics have dismissed the trend as unnecessary, others have been queueing up to grab one of these rainbow delights for themselves. For National Grilled Cheese Day, they even sold 100 of these beautiful creations for only $1, sending fanatics into serious overdrive.

Unsurprisingly, Chomp is no stranger to magically on-trend foods. Back in 2015, they did the impossible and managed to roll out a pumpkin spice burger, complete with a fried chicken patty, cinnamon donut buns and decadent pumpkin aioli. But when they’re not churning out Instagram magic (FYI, they have lightbulb drink containers), Chomp offers healthier eats that boast all the “flavour, without the food coma”. Although a rainbow food coma doesn’t sound so bad.
