6 crazy adventurous ice cream flavours you need to try

It’s hard to not love ice cream.

After all, there are many people in this world (myself included) who would happily describe it as THE king of comfort food – the sweet, creamy antidote to all heartbreak, boredom and any other woe you can dream up.

… But as amazing as ice cream is, what happens when ice cream-preneurs go rogue? What do you do when your beloved treat takes on bold flavours that seriously test the limits of your devotion?

Well, let’s find out. Here are some of the craziest ice cream flavours you can try from around the world. The real question is though: would you dare?

1. Lobster

Ben & Bill’s Chocolate Emporium in Bar Harbour, Maine is known for their diverse selection of scoops, the most popular being a butter ice cream studded with real lobster chunks. This unlikely combo is supposedly a delicious revelation, so why not try it out?

2. Crocodile egg

Ice cream made with (mmm) crocodile eggs… Sounds legit! Sweet Spot Artisan Ice Cream in Davao City, Philippines churns out three different flavours of ‘crocodile egg’ ice cream: durian, pandan and vanilla, all of which forgo regular chicken eggs for croc eggs instead! If you’re wondering “WHY??”, it’s apparently because this special ingredient makes the ice cream both thicker and creamier.

3. Cheeseburger

With over 1000 flavours on offer, Venezuela’s Heladeria Coromoto is a record holder in the Guinness Book of World Records, and has of course become a major magnet for daring foodies from all around the world. Their exotic selection includes savoury mashups like spaghetti & cheese, cream of crab and naturally, the American cheeseburger.

4. Glow in the dark

Lick Me I’m Delicious is the UK-based company behind genius food innovations like the Nitro Parlour (a liquid nitrogen ice cream machine) and the Chocolate Tap (a tap continually producing flavoured chocolate). Perhaps most intriguing is its glow in the dark ice cream, created by founder Charlie Francis who (alongside Chinese scientists) used the bio-luminscent proteins found in jellyfish to create an ice cream that glows when licked! Don’t get too excited though, this creation was sadly just a one-off, but that’s kinda comforting, given that the high cost of this protein would put each scoop at $200.

5. Beer and sauerkraut

Munich’s Der Verruckte Eismacher (the Crazy Ice Cream Maker) is a quirky and whimsical wonderland of iced treats, serving up flavours inspired by the shop’s German roots. Patrons can sample a variety of interesting Germany-inspired flavours, including Augustiner beer and of course, sauerkraut.
